Advent is a season which lasts for approximately one month leading up to the Celebration of Christmas. During this season, we simultaneously prepare for both Advents of our Lord. His first Advent, in the Ancient Mediterranean world in the First Century, and his second Advent, whose hour only the Father knows, when he will come to judge the world in righteousness.

Triduum Sacrum: The Three Holy Days
On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of Holy Week, the church celebrates something called the triduum sacrum. This is the name given to these “three holy days” leading up to Easter Sunday. Liturgically this is seen as one event, divided over the course of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Great Vigil on Saturday.
